Leaf/Yard Waste Reminder
As a reminder to all Prophetstown residents, per the following City Ordinances, no leaves or yard waste should be pushed/blown into City streets or alleys, and should not be burned there either. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Public Works at 815-537-5214.
Sec. 28-5. – Placing rubbish on streets.
a.) No person shall himself or by his agents, employees or servants cast, throw, drop, place, sweep or deposit in any manner whatsoever in or upon any street, sidewalk, alley, gutter or other public place any garbage, filth, dirt, rubbish, waste, landscape waste or like substance whatsoever, whether liquid or solid.
b.) No person shall himself or by his agents, employees or servants cast, throw, drop, place, sweep or deposit anywhere within the city any substance, article, refuse, garbage, landscape waste or rubbish in such manner that it may be carried and deposited by action of the sun, wind, rain, snow or other elements into or upon any street, sidewalk, alley, gutter or other public place.
Sec. 30-5. – Burning on streets.
It is unlawful for any person to burn or suffer or cause to be burned any leaves, wood, paper, straw or any other material or rubbish on the roadway of any street within the corporate limits of the city, or any alley which is surfaced with concrete, asphalt, bituminous material or oil. Violations of this section are punishable by a fine of not less than $100.00 nor more than $500.00 for each violation.
