Prophetstown, part of Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico Community Unit School District #3, is home to an elementary school (serving kindergarten through fifth grade) and a high school (grades 9-12). Middle school students attend classes at a facility in Tampico, where a second elementary school is also located. Total district student population is about 1,000.

With a projected completion in 2013, Prophetstown will have a new middle and high school which will be home to 4th – 12th grade students from the Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico communities.

A full range of academic, technology and athletic programs are offered throughout the district. With assistance from the Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico Education Foundation, local organizations and grants, computer centers have been established in each school, and computers are available in every classroom. Comprehensive programs also are available for special needs students ages 3-21. The school district has achieved the highest level of achievement under the Illinois Board of Education’s School District Financial Profile program.

Morrison Institute of Technology in nearby Morrison IL offers a two-year curriculum in engineering and drafting.

Sauk Valley Community College – located on Illinois Route 2 between Dixon and Sterling, is a highly regarded two-year college offering quality education at an affordable cost.

Clinton Community College – located across the Mississippi River in Clinton Iowa, offers two year college quality education and is associated with the Eastern Iowa Education System

Ashford University – A four year degree is not far away. Ashford University is located in Clinton Iowa and offers on-line  and campus classes.
